And The Oscar Goes To...

For his inspiring interpretation of a Ninja , Clockstopper, Jedi, Wizard Superhero name Cody Banks. Lately my youngest has taken on every character in just about every movie he has ever seen and rolled it in to one. The only problem is my son does not break character. He constantly battling demon bad guys even during church. It was all I could do to get him to fold his arms during a prayer and even then there was some awesome high kicks to ward off any ankle biting evil beings. The thing is he wasn't being noisy. He was "shadow boxing" or "shadow hand to air combat". Regardless of what one might call it, almost all appendages were involved. That my friends is just a distracting as a child wailing as if they were having their arm cut off by a lefty pair of scissors. I did eventually take him out after trying to redirect attention and threatening punishment.

I love that he has such a vivid imagination and I don't want to crush it. It has to take a great imagination to remain in character for days on end, but not everyone wants to live in a movie. I must say that it is hard to find a balance on teaching appropriate behavior and fostering a good imagination. So far so good.

Boys are such fun. I don't think there is a "correct" answer. With my older boy, I would take him out, give him three spanks (to get his attention) on his bottom and force him to sit stillwith his arms folded on my lao for 3 minutes before returning inside. Inside I let my kids have the run of the pew (we sat on a side) as long as they were quiet. His problem was more noise. Not that he was ever still either. All in all, it seemed to work fairly well.

Good Luck!

I haven't had to deal with a fidgety child so I don't know what to say there, but I think it's so great to foster that imagination. My son's best friend is great at that. They always have a scenario they're playing to, even if it's waterguns or jumping on the trampoline they'll be Harry Potter or Star Wars characters or Pokemon or whatever. It's so nice to see.

imagination is great. wiggly bodies at church, not so much. :-) My son is only 3 and has been a wiggly loud crazy boy in church since 6 months old. I can only imagine that its going to get worse as he gets older, not better.

Great. So this is what I have to look forward to. As it is, for the past 2 weeks in Relief Society my son (only 6 months) was quite for maybe 5 minutes of the meeting. He was happy, so that was good, but he was certainly loud too. And he never stops moving, even in his sleep.
